Our environment is precious and the expectation is that it should be healthy and free from pollution. We have an aim to limit and prevent any further damage to the environment. Those with respiratory illness know all too well the discomfort that some air pollutants can bring. Geographical SpotlightWycombe District Council serves an area of approximately 125 square miles. It lies in the South West of Buckinghamshire. The M40 serves the district with 3 junctions. The majority of the district lies within the Metropolitan Green Belt. The current population is in the region of 171,000. What are we doing?A comprehensive framework for air quality monitoring has been in place for over 10 years. This helps provide information on air quality in the district and to highlight any areas of concern that need further attention.We have also declared an Air Quality Management Area in respect of the M40 and the immediate area around it as it passes through the district. We have an Action Plan to address the issue of poor air quality in this areaCONTINUOUS MONITORING:There are 2 continuous monitoring facilities in the District. ·A roadside site on Marlow Hill in High Wycombe·A roadside site on the M40 in StokenchurchThere are 48 passive monitoring sites located throughout the district. These provide average monthly levels of Nitrogen Dioxide throughout the District.
