Milton Keynes introduce ‘Car Share &
Alternative Fuel Vehicle Permits’
Car Share and Pool Car schemes
Milton Keynes Council, together with Milton Keynes Sustainable Transport Limited, are running an
experimental car share scheme and an experimental pool car scheme which it is intended will come into
effect at the same time as the current proposals. The schemes are administered by Milton Keynes
Sustainable Transport Limited (MKSTL). As experimental schemes, they will be subject to monitoring and
may be extended, reduced or made permanent at a later date, depending upon the success of the
experiment.
All employees of companies located in Central Milton Keynes may apply to become a member of the car
share club administered by MKSTL. Each member will be issued with a car share permit, which will be free
of charge. The permits will enable the vehicle to be parked in a standard rate pay and display parking place
without displaying a pay and display ticket. The permits will also enable the vehicle to be parked in areas
which will be designated for use by car share members only. Each permit will show up to two vehicle
registration numbers (nominated by the applicant). Each car being parked using the car share scheme
must display two permits. One of the permits must show the vehicle registration number of the parked
vehicle.
The pool cars may be used by members of the car share club, subscribing companies and residents of
Central Milton Keynes. The scheme will operate in a similar way as a hire company, but prices will be lower
and the vehicle can be 'hired' for as little as one hour. Return of the vehicle to the pool car bay will signal
the end of the 'hire' period.
Further information on both experimental schemes will be available from Milton Keynes Sustainable
Transport Limited. More information can be obtained from www.transportmk.com or by calling the car share
hotline on 01908 274274.
Alternative Fuel Vehicle Permits
Alternative Fuel Vehicle permits are only available to employees of a company or organisation located in
Central Milton Keynes who use an alternative fuel vehicle. This means a vehicle which uses an alternative
to petrol or diesel, including vehicles which use Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) or "dual powered" vehicles
which run on an alternative fuel together with petrol or diesel. Application forms are available from your
employer or the Parking Shop.
The permit will be supplied free of charge and supplied on an annual basis. It shows the date on which it
expires and up to two vehicle registration numbers (nominated by the applicant), both of which must be
alternative fuel vehicles. The permit may be used 7 days a week. You can ask for advice on the parking scheme from
