Cut Your Engine – Cut Pollution!New powers have just been granted to councils by the Department of Transport, Local Government and the Regions (DTLR) to enforce drivers to turn of their engine where it is running unnecessarily while the vehicle is stationary. The scheme aims to encourage drivers to switch off their vehicle engines when parked for more than a minute or two. Driver's who refuse to do so when requested may be subject to a fixed penalty fine.The scheme covers all vehicles (except emergency vehicles etc) including busses, cars, taxis and lorries.Signs reminding drivers to 'cut their engine - cut pollution' will soon be appearing across the districts.
